Formosa 4

The first offshore wind project entirely led by a local team since Taiwan commercialized offshore wind

Formosa 4 Offshore Wind Farm is a large-scale project invested in and developed by Synera Renewable Energy (SRE). With a maximum potential capacity of 1,104MW, it marks a significant milestone as the first offshore wind project developed solely by a local team since Taiwan commercialized offshore wind.

SRE announced our flagship Formosa 4 in September 2020 following our participation in Formosa 1, Taiwan’s first commercial-scale offshore wind farm, and Formosa 2. The expansion of pipeline demonstrates our confidence in the enormous potential we see in offshore wind resources in the Taiwan Strait. At the end of 2022, Formosa 4 was successfully awarded 495MW of development capacity by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Formosa 4 brings together local industry partners’ expertise in development, manufacturing, technology, construction, operation, and maintenance to bolster Taiwan’s ability to develop offshore wind farms independently and localize the supply chain. The ultimate goal is to push Taiwan’s offshore wind industry to the next level and accelerate the energy transition.
